The Deuce - Chapter 6

Elena was clean and cozy in her soft, tiny bed. If he hadn’t smelled so good when he slipped in behind her, she would have sent him off with an elbow to the ribs. Instead, she felt the warm peace of his arm draped over her and enjoyed the smokey smell of him.

“I’m so sorry, darling,” he mumbled in her ear. 

“Go to sleep,” she said. “You’re only all lovey-dovey when you’re horny or drunk.”

“Good news,” he said. “I’m both.”

She made a disgusted sound, and said, “Shut up.” She was smiling when she said it though. Sometimes, he was charming, but it was almost always when his mouth was shut. It seemed like his body loved her more than his mouth ever would. Then again, her body loved him far more than her brain did. It was almost a fair exchange.
